What is it about?

The writings of Artapanus, Demetrius, and Philo the poet, although often overlooked, provide valuable insights into Jewish thought and adaptation in Egypt. These Egyptian-Jewish authors aimed to maintain their Jewish identity while connecting with the surrounding Egyptian culture. A key figure in this effort is the biblical Joseph, who symbolizes the blend of Jewish and Egyptian influences. Their works offer a unique view of how Jews in Egypt integrated their beliefs with local customs during the 3rd and 2nd centuries BCE, using Joseph as a model for navigating life in the Diaspora.
