What is it about?

The article discusses how religions disappear and die. It focuses on active strategies of religion demise. Analysing processes of change in ancient Judaism, the article suggests that ideals of religious devotion as total, involving the emotional formation of the entire person, appear in the Hebrew Bible. It suggests that these ideals of total devotion are intimately related to the destruction of previous ways of being religious. By paying attention to emotions and narrativity, we can here see the emergence of a form of radical religious devotion.
