What is it about?

There is a tendency in academic literature, to explain nearly every change in material culture of the North Pontic region in antiquity by the constant appearance of new waves of nomads from the East ("Sarmatians"). The author suggests that this explanation model is deeply rooted in the history of Russian Empire.

Why is it important?

It is important, to be aware of this paradigm reading academic literature and doing own research on the cultural change in the North Pontic region.

Perspectives

For me it took more than 15 years to understand, why academics are so eager, to find "Sarmatian" features in the material culture (particularly in burial rite) of Greek and "Barbarian" cultures of the North Pontic region. I hope, this knowledge will help to release our mind from paradigms and to create a new non-contradictory concept of cultural procecces in the North Pontic region.
