What is it about?

Fighting pandemic like COVID-19 requires enhancing individuals’ health behaviour to encourage preventive actions. This in turn requires understanding factors associated with human behaviour. To assist, efforts of controlling the COVID-19 pandemics, we conducted a study to identify factors associated with adoption of preventive behaviour against COVID-19 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We employed the social-ecological model to examine individual, interpersonal, community, organizational and policy level factors. We conducted a cross-sectional survey with randomly selected household representatives in Addis Ababa city. We found that residents adopted preventive actions to some extent. Interpersonal behaviour, community norms, and organizational-level factors were important factors associated with adoption of preventive behaviour. We conclude that, we need to intervene at community and organization level to combat COVID-19 successfully.
