What is it about?
The paper critically reconsiders the current literature on happiness and its determinants. It first presents a theoretical framework and classification of contemporary societies. It then constructs a composite index of the happiness of nations. Next, it describe data and their sources on the factors of happiness for Western and associated societies such as OECD countries. Importantly, it reports results from preliminary and exploratory analyses, including aggregate happiness indexes for OECD countries and types of society.
