What is it about?
A new nematode species of Leptolaimus was found in sediment samples in the Petrel lagoon, Chile. This nematode belongs to the group in which only males have pre-cloacal tubular supplements and no pharyngeal supplements and is characterized by the following features: the length of both males and females (843 – 1060 µm), the tail length (118 -208 µm), the shape of the gubernaculum, and the arrangement of the caudal setae in males. We describe this population and designate it as Leptolaimus petrelense n. sp.
