What is it about?

The present investigations come from postgraduate program at “Facultad de Ciencias del Mar” from Autonomous University of Sinaloa, where first author is studying her doctoral degree. We are presenting a study on a scyllarid species. This taxon is a poorly studied group around the world. In Mexico there are some reports published in Crustaceana since 1975 when Johnson who studied the postlarvae and the newest in 2020 when Tirado-Ibarra reported just one specimen as by-catch in shrimp trawler. According to Tirado-Ibarra (2020) a scyllarid species is poorly presented in the area, but we know from personal communication with shrimpers there are an important population, so we dedicated time and effort to get the confidence with fishermen and in this way, we were able to get 546 fresh specimens in different sizes from October 2021 to March 2022. This amount of slipper lobster let us to estimate growth parameter this species for males and females. This will be the first study in this topic. We want to mention that as part of the postgraduate study of the first author, we developed a market survey in the Mexican Pacific main ports. This study in under review in a local journal.
