Combined effects of density and predation on the foraging behaviour of gerbils

What is it about?

Animals have to choose whether to protect themselves from predator, or to look for food. The latter is specially crucial if animals are in dense environment with lots of competitors. We show that Negev desert gerbils reduce their reaction to predators when under high risk preefering to mitigate competition than predation.
