Intra- and interspecific behavioural ecology within and between Mollienesia males (sailfin molly Poecilia velifera and shortfin molly P. mexicana) in mangroves of Yucatán peninsula

What is it about?

Cryptic-intermediate males of P. velifera have advantages (less aggression/greater reproductive opportunities) that provide them increased reproductive fitness._x000D_ We confirmed the absence of pre-mating isolation mechanisms between P. mexicana and P. velifera._x000D_ We suggest that there are hybrids produced by large males of P. mexicana with females of P. velifera._x000D_ Poecilia mexicana showed aggressive behavior directed at smaller males and males of P. velifera._x000D_ _x000D_
