What is it about?
Female frogs vary a lot in how many eggs they lay, and how large the eggs are. What determines this variation? We found that variation is greatest along the duration of the breeding season: Females lay more eggs at the beginning of the season, when condition for tadpoles to grow and survive are expected to be most favorable.
