What is it about?

The group of common Bronzeback snakes (Dendrellaphis pictus) is examined in a series of papers. We examined specimens from the whole distribution area and were surprised that a second species, looking similar to Dendrelaphis pictus was hidden under this name, which we named as Dendrelaphis haasi.

Why is it important?

The complex of Dendrelaphis pictus was split into several species in this paper. This is a step to understand the biodiversity in this group and to help to define areas of high biodiversity and species of limited distribution areas. These are bases for conservation efforts.

Perspectives

This was no 1 in a series of papers about this complex. But there are still questions open about the species of NE India, Southern China and the small Sunda islands. More species can be expected here.
