What is it about?
In Pliny the Elder's list of Egyptian nomes in NH 5.49, two names are apparently placed out of order (Latopoliten and Panopoliten). The author of the note argues that in both cases purely textual solutions are possible for the problem. An inquiry into the manuscript evidence in the light of Michael Reeve's recent conclusions regarding the relations of Plinian manuscripts suggests that in the first case Letopoliten should be read instead of Latopoliten and in the second case Panopoliten has to be deleted as an interpolation.
