What is it about?
Consular jurisdiction was a favourite topic of jurists in the 19th century. The article deals with the legal theories and problems. In doing so, the article analyses contemporary legal literature. In doing so, the article analyses contemporary legal literature and compares European authors with their Ottoman, Chinese and Japanese counterparts. In this respect, the aim is to foster a global historical understanding.
