What is it about?
This chapter engages with two brilliant young Lebanese Australian writers, Michael Mohammed Ahmad and Omar Sakr, exploring their coming-of-age stories to understand the experiences of Muslims in contemporary Australia. Social identities and spiritual lives are going through important changes and these writers help us understand what's really going on in the lives of many young Muslims and people of Middle Eastern ancestry in Australia

Why is it important?
Creative writers provide deeply thoughtful insights into their personal lives, their communities, and their wider society. We can learn a great deal about the complex lives and beliefs of young Muslims of Lebanses ancestry in Australia, through engaging with the creative writing of talented members of the diverse community.
Perspectives
Writing this chapter was a joy, as I got to figuratively spend time reading and thinking with two very creative and challenging writers who understand the complexities of life in contemporary Australia. I hope the chapter encourages readers to engage with the rich, socially and politically engaged literature coming out of contemporary Australia and increases understanding of the social and spiritual shifts underway.
