What is it about?
This chapter presents a genealogy of the concepts of "Global South" and “South–South Cooperation”. It defends a definition of the concept, to the extent that there are several possible understandings of what South–South Cooperation means, which makes it important to make explicit which one we start from.

Perspectives
The chapter proposes an epistemological debate based on the reflections of the Congolese philosopher V.Y. Mudimbe, to relativize and historicize the very notion of “South”. Finally, it makes a brief review of the origins and paths taken by the concept.
