What is it about?

Throughout his commentary on John, Cyril of Alexandria uses multiple tools to highlighht the interconnectedness between not only his pneumatology and sacremental theology, but also his incarnational theology, with Christ always at the centre of his narrative. Cyril's narrative resembles a theologiical tapestry depicting humankind's participation in teh divine.

Why is it important?

Both baptism and the eucharist are necessary means of attaining union with God. Through these sacraments, humankind reaches union with God by virtue of the kinship between the incarnated Word and humankind's corporeal nature.

Perspectives

Humanity’s union with God is real, though not by nature. It is a union that must be understood as surpassing mere moral association, yet it is one that is attained through grace and imitation
