What is it about?

Matta al-Miskin understands paradisal perfection as access to divine life, fulfilled in Christ, conditioned by his view of salvation as union and participation. Moreover, Matta's incarnational theology is central to grasping humankind's union with God. Matta aims to reveal the mystery of the salvific incarnation from eternity-past to eternity-future.

Why is it important?

Although Matta offers novel interpretations in many instances, the Cyrilline approach and the broader Alexandrian context are not lost on him.

Perspectives

Despite the often controversial nature of the notion of deification within the modern Coptic (Egyptian) Orthodox Church, Matta al-Miskin remains firmly rooted in the Alexandrian tradition. Throughout his writings, he consistently emphasises the distinction between the one who is participated in (God) and the participant (humanity).
