What is it about?

This chapter investigates the rootedness of philosophy in love and contained within this relation of love to wisdom is a certain fidelity. This fidelity is ultimately a fidelity of reason: both a rational fidelity and a faithfulness to the promise of reason. This inner sense of philosophy is shown to be at the core of phenomenology.

Why is it important?

This article argues for a rethinking of reasoning as an act of loving fidelity. It shows how such a view is at the core of phenomenology. Further, understanding reasoning in this ways allows for a understanding reason as both personal and as rooted in desire.

Perspectives

It was a pleasure working with the editors of this collection of essays on a very important topic. Love is a central concern to human beings in all aspects of our existence and it was a great opportunity to think further on this topic.
