What is it about?

This article is the final chapter of my book on narcotics in Arabic-Islamic culture 1100-1800. It sums up my research results on narcotics in medicine, their use as poisons, the juridical discussion on their use an abuse, the so called Hashish monographs that came upon in the 13th century CET and the question whether there was an understanding of addiction in pre modern times.

Why is it important?

This article sums up the complete book and thus gives the reader a short overview of the complete work and hints at chapters to look at in search for a certain content.

Perspectives

Summing up the whole book was a very easy task for me and it showed me the scope of my work, how many different subjects I looked into and the broad variety of of results I could produce in the process. It is a good chapter for someone searching one or two of the aspects I worked on in the book and shows them where to look.
