What is it about?

As writing instructors we sometimes take for granted how cognitively demanding the writing process can be. By putting ourselves in the shoes of struggling writers drowning in a sea of deadlines and frustrations, we can more effectively judge which strategies can serve as the most efficient and sustainable lifelines.

Why is it important?

Fostering productive mindsets about writing might be the most important piece of teaching the writing process in classrooms. We might hang posters about growth mindset in our room, and talk about all of the right things… but is the way we approach writing instruction, writing feedback, and writing culture in the classroom aligned with students becoming more hopeful about their role as a writer?
