The book is a theoretical and practical definition of Ancient Egyptian Portraiture based on an art-historical analysis and critique of egyptological and non-egyptological literature on the subject and their sources.

Why is it important?
The book presents a non-comparativistic approach to Ancient Egyptian portraiture and art. It is intended as a contribution to the history of Ancient Egyptian culture and history of art.
Perspectives
The writing of this book was a long process of systematisation and critique of the literature, which ultimately resulted in the revision of the disparagement with which Ancient Egyptian art and portraiture are often approached. It is my hope that it will stimulate discussion on Ancient Egyptian portraiture and art from the perspective of the contribution that they offer to Ancient Egyptian culture and a universal history of art.
