Why is it important?
Teacher retention is a dire issue across the nation and the need is more extreme for teachers of color. Throughout this article, connections to research help navigate the detailed experience as well as show how those in the environment could have made choices that would have been more supportive and how said strategies and moves could increase teacher longevity.
Perspectives
Via storytelling, writing this article gave me the opportunity not only to share one of the many negative experiences I had as an African American teacher in a predominantly white space, but helped me share what is still happening in our schools and what might have made a difference.
