What is it about?
In this chapter we provide an argument on how the point of view of critical realism may contribute to teacher education research. By using biographical material, we illuminate how causal thinking empowers teachers' critical reflexivity

Why is it important?
Our argument aims at highlighting that articulating causal research questions enhances teachers' professional identities. This kind of posing research questions makes teachers reflect upon their social and personal identity through their life course
Perspectives
I hope that this chapter will be an opportunity for a Gestalt switch, that is an opportunity through which teacher educators may enrich their approach to critical reflexivity in action.
