What is it about?

An exploration of the history, leadership and culture of the British Assemblies of God (AoG) from its formation in 1924 (and the advent of British Pentecostalism that set the scene for its formation) through the various crisis points in its development to the present day.

Why is it important?

This is a unique and fascinating study drawing on interviews, desk research and personal insights to seek out clues and meaning to the critical incidents and events of the AoG as it celebrates its 100 year anniversary.

Perspectives

I spent eight years researching this topic for my PhD at the same time as undertaking AoG ministry status training and as leader in a local AoG church. This all provided an unprecedented opportunity to balance the academic distance with the 'up close and personal' insights. The study was unique in that it used the trilateral lens of theology, business and sociology to cast light on the richness of the ethnographic research.
