Why is it important?
Participating in the community's labor force provides opportunities for adults with disabilities to live their best life, build self-esteem, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and labor force.
Perspectives
Many adults living with disabilities, especially those living with complex or significant disabilities, are commonly unemployed and/or segregated from the mainstream of their communities. This chapter discusses a new way of thinking about the employment potential of people with disabilities who want to work and emerging strategies to negotiate and customize jobs with their employers.
