What is it about?

In this text we argue about the validity and relevance of the concept of class in the analysis of inequality. On various occasions, and from various contexts and paradigms, the eventual historical death of class has been decreed, in some cases, or theoretical obsolescence in others. However, from each decree of its death, social class is resurrected to continue portraying, like no other category, the stories of inequality in our societies.

Why is it important?

Without a doubt, the recovery of social class as a current concept faces numerous obstacles that are noted in this article. On the one hand, it is not just a necessary criticism of the arguments that point to the end of class as a category, which have influenced numerous circles of opinion related to the questions about Marx's thought. On the other hand, it is not an apology of this same author either. It is rather a question of theoretically and politically confronting the various dilemmas and crossroads that a concept as polysemic as social class implies. In any case, the analysis is aimed at defending this concept, for which purpose various unfinished tasks are proposed to be addressed.

Perspectives

We hope that with this text we can contribute to repositioning the concept of social class for the understanding of social inequalities in contemporary society. The fight against inequality is a privileged field of class struggle, and with it, of the struggles for social emancipation of Humanity.
