This study examines Thai users' characteristics of relative clauses based on the theoretical approach of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF).

Why is it important?
It provides a new perspective on the study of non-native users' relative clauses in English. Most previous studies on learners' relative clauses have focused on "grammatical errors" while this study treats differences from native speaker norms as "distinct or deviant features" which may not cause miscommunication and reflect some general linguistic processes that underlie the interactions of ELF speakers.
Perspectives
I hope this paper makes readers more aware of the changing forms and functions of English in the globalization era and accept different varieties of global Englishes.
