What is it about?
Endorsement of science is often associated with non-religiosity and lack of belief in supernatural. The study investigated whether non-believers and believers differed on the relevance of science for their worldviews. More specifically, the study investigated a sense of meaning and immortality from science, and respondents’ evaluations on the significance of science for morality. The study was implemented in the Nordic context (Finland) as an online survey. The respondents were recruited via pro-science organizations. The results suggest that science is more relevant for the worldviews of non-believers also among science-oriented individuals. However, many God believers endorse the significance of science for e.g., a sense of meaning in their life. The study provides rare knowledge on people’s own views on moral guidance and deeper meaning from scientific research.
