What is it about?

The importance of taking fully into account animal consciousness in the treatment of animals and respecting their particular modes of natural life. We humans have serious moral obligations to treat nonhuman animals with dignity and respect--and not to inflict unnecessary sufferings and deprivations on them.

Why is it important?

Animals are routinely treated as objects rather than as living beings in industrialized farming and manufacturing of meat. This practice must be subjected to serious question and steps taken toward its elimination. Profit and efficiency should not be allowed to eclipse morality.

Perspectives

I am a philosopher who has long taught, written, and been concerned about compassionate moral treatment of nonhuman animals.
