In the findings, a theory emerges as to which people influence involvement and how this changes. It also demonstrates that particular program elements, especially a four-day bush solo are key to motivation and momentum..


The article documents a preliminary study into a leadership development program for young men and has informed a current in-depth project researching elements that are relevant to effectiveness - including the application of key lenses (community, communitas, servant-leadership, liminality, masculine spirituality and rites of passage).
