What is it about?
Pollen of 15 wild species and 2 cultivated accessions of Solanum were taken up the present study . The pollen grains thus collected and moisture content was determined (8 to 10%) were subjected to viability assessment and were transferred to empty gelatin capsules. The gelatin capsules were packed in laminated aluminium pouches, sealed airtight using a heat sealer and then stacked into the perforated canisters of the nitrogen cryotank and the cryotanks were periodically replenished with liquid nitrogen to ensure complete immersion pollen samples. The viability, fertility and SEM studies were carried out and found that cryopreserved pollen were viable and fertile .A pollen cryobank established for wild relatives of solanum will help tobreed biotic and abiotic stress tolerant varieties in brinjal
