What is it about?

The perceived length of visual signals can be largely dictated by simultaneous auditory cues so that a visual flash can be perceived as longer than it actually is if that sound played with the flash is physically longer in duration. The current study examined how both the alignment and the complexity of auditory and visual signals affected this phenomenon. While the complexity had little effect on the strength of auditory influence over visual duration perception, this effect was strongest when the cues were temporally aligned indicating a role of temporal over non-temporal features on cross-modal duration perception.
