What is it about?

The number of Jewish scholars who were born in Germany during the first two decades of the twentieth century, enjoyed a thorough Jewish education and then turned to Islamic/Oriental studies is legion. Representing the last generation of the Wissenschaft des Judentums, the careers and often lifes of many of them came to an abrupt end following the Nazis rise to power and World War II. This article studies the case of Marie (Mirjam) Mainz, one of the representatives of these scholar.
