What is it about?
The 2023 Conference on Media, Religion, and Culture covered various topics, including social media, journalism, religious-themed movies and shows, and how media was used in historical religious practices. This variety is an asset but can be confusing because people have different ideas about what "media" and "religion" mean. To help with this, the paper suggests organizing the research into two main groups: studies about religion in mass media and studies about how religious groups use media. These groups are further divided into sections based on different media types, such as journalism, PR, entertainment, religious vs. non-religious communicators, and analog vs. digital media. This system aims to make it easier for researchers to find common ground and have more structured discussions.
