What is it about?

Book publishing is wasteful. Trees are cut down to make paper (very energy and water intensive); turned into print in large quantities (many of which never leave the warehouse); distributed around the world by CO2 emitting ships, lorries, planes; returned when unsold; and destroyed.

Why is it important?

The climate change crisis must be addressed instantly and the book publishing industry needs to play its part.

Perspectives

Do as I do, not as I say. I have ensured my own books My Back Pages: An undeniably personal history of publishing 1972-2022 is manufactured and distributed with the least climate impact.
