What is it about?

This essay examines the nature and philosophical strengths of radical empiricism through analysis of similarities and differences in the philosophies of William James and Gilles Deleuze. Drawing principally on James's Essays in Radical Empiricism and Principles of Psychology and on Deleuze's The Logic of Sense and Empiricism and Subjectivity, the differences between pragmatic and transcendental empiricism are stressed. Together these views allow an understanding of philosophy as a creative art and a means to develop flexible habits of genius for a changing world.
