What is it about?
The article compares the future visions of fictional Namibian characters from Namibian novels had with the realities of a post-independent Namibia under SWAPO leadership. The metrics of comparison range from education, social mobility, to safety and security.

Why is it important?
It assesses in how far the wishes of average Namibians, as voiced through authors and their characters, have been met, exceeded, or undermined while also giving a broad historical and social context to make these comparisons.
Perspectives
This article was a great experience as it was a good platform to evaluate a state's responsibility towards its citizens and not relying exclusively on data sets or statistics but also engaging with the fictional layer of the country and the aspirations of well-known fictional characters.
