What is it about?

This article looks at how activists as well as state institutions and pro-state users use TikTok and Douyin (TikTok in China) in order to respectively spread awareness concerning human rights violations in Xinjiang (XUAR) or to counter-act such narratives. The article first provides a brief background about the current human rights situation in the XUAR, reviws the multi-modal discourse analysis, and then separately analyses the content on Douyin and TikTok.
