What is it about?
The article presents the main challenges of the beach Management Unit (BMUs) which is the lack of local embeddedness. BMUs is a tool for fishers but they are excluded and many actors associated with the fisheries are not official members. as such BMUs is seen as an external structure, top down imposed to fishers and it does not carter for the fishers needs. This has resulted into lack of its acceptance and has negative implication on the sustianability of the BMUs and the social and ecological environment. The paper outlines elements of embeddedness and the extent to which they can be seen in the BMUs operation and the challenges of the BMUs and challenges in achieving sustainability.
