What is it about?

Early Pentecostals expected the imminent return of Christ and it acted as an impetus to preach the gospel to all. The next generations adopted a fundamentalist hermeneutical angle and premillennialist dispensationalism to understand biblical prophecies. It included the doctrines of rapture, premillennialism and a distinction between Israel and the church. As a result, they argued that Christ’s return was delayed as long as Jews rejected Jesus. They lost their emphasis on the need to urgently evangelise the world and focus their attention on explaining the biblical ‘last events’ and setting timetables for Christ’s return.
