What is it about?
The legislation of the Azerbaijan Republic in the field of healthcare has entered the stage of active transformation and renewal recently. Some laws of the country, which for many years were under consideration or were frozen, began to be implemented precisely against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic; and it made the introduction of the laws more challenging. _x000D_ One of the most significant changes was the introduction of mandatory health insurance. That made it possible to harmonise legislative practice with global trends, and should also ensure the availability of medical care for the population of the country, regardless of the socio-economic status of the patient._x000D_ Another important update was the change in the law on transplantation and donation of organs and tissues. With the entry into force of the updated law, which is expected in 2022, the country will allow the transplantation procedure not only from corpses, but also from living donors._x000D_ Major amendments to the law on the protection of the rights of people with disabilities also have been made recently. _x000D_ Therefore, against the background of the most severe global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Azerbaijan has introduced significant amendments and updated laws related to the healthcare, which will contribute to the development of patients' rights and the entire system of domestic healthcare and legislation.
