Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing: A Vietnamese Perspective

What is it about?

Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated fishing (IUU) has caused significant damage to the economy, destroyed the marine environment and ecosystems, and threatened the sustainable livelihoods of a part of the coastal population in Vietnam. The problem of IUU fishing in Vietnam is alarming and requires the country to take urgent and proactive measures. This article discusses several issues related to Vietnam's efforts to combat IUU fishing and future possibilities and perspective, including an analysis of the various drivers and causes of IUU fishing in the country. The article has emphasized developing and strengthening the legal framework among various measures toward effectively combating IUU fishing in Vietnam. Nevertheless, other measures, such as strengthening law enforcement, increasing surveillance and control at sea, tightening port control, and promoting international cooperation are equally important in the fight against IUU fishing in Vietnam. _x000D_ _x000D_
