Experiential Learning in Times of Climate Crisis

What is it about?

Role plays and simulations are effective tools for teaching international politics, yet they are often overlooked, particularly in the context of global climate justice. At University X and University Y, we developed a simulation based on actual UN climate negotiations to help students understand the complexities of these global discussions. By actively participating in the roles of negotiators, students explore concepts of justice, empathy, and perspective. Based on our experience in designing and implementing the simulation, along with student feedback, we argue that this approach enhances understanding and equips students with the skills needed to engage meaningfully with issues of global climate injustice.
