The taxonomic status of Aphelenchoides besseyi Christie, 1942 (Nematoda: Aphelenchoididae) populations from the southeastern USA, and description of Aphelenchoides pseudobesseyi sp. n.

What is it about?

Populations previously identified as Aphelenchoides besseyi were studied using morphological, morphometric and molecular analyses of samples from the USA, and previously published data. Using an integrated approach, the A. besseyi species complex contains several cryptic species: A. besseyi sensu stricto, A. oryzae, A. pseudobesseyi sp. n. and other putative undescribed species. Phylogenetic and sequencing analysis clearly separated these species.
