Despite the growing interest in the study and conservation of biodiversity worldwide, approximately 90% of all species remain undescribed or unrecognized. Further research on the hidden biodiversity within the hermit-crab genus Diogenes reveals the existence of a new species that inhabits the north-central and northeastern Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.
