What is it about?

This paper examines a relatively recent gastronomic trend known as New Carnivorism in the context of a Danish TV show named “Kill Your Favorite Dish”. The paper critically analyzes how meat-eating is presented as benevolent and natural in a time where meat production is increasingly problematized.

Why is it important?

The current ecological crisis including dramatic geological changes, habitat destruction and the irreversible loss of species and biodiversity urges us as human beings to rethink how we relate to other beings with whom we share this planet. An important step towards a more sustainable future involves the transition towards more plant-based diets, vegetarianism or veganism. However, as the consumption of animal products is increasingly problematized, new examples of the construction of ideological narratives in support of eating animals find its way to popular media.
