What is it about?
Studying Chi Li's extensive use of Buddhist references in four of her poems to tap into issues dear to her, this essay shows how that use affects my translation of the poems and what this translation experience suggests about the role of poetry translation in cross-cultural communication and the digital age.

Why is it important?
Chi Li, a contemporary Chinese novelist, is very well-known and popular among Chinese readers, and translations of her novels, especially into French, have made her one of the most internationally renowned Chinese novelists. However, her poetry has not been translated and adequately studied.
