What is it about?
This paper proposes an analysis of a type of ellipsis construction called 'pseudogapping'. It argues for a synthesis of two types of analyses for ellipsis phenomena in the literature, and implements that analysis in a version of categorial grammar called Hybrid Type-Logical Categorial Grammar.

Why is it important?
While research in categorial grammar (especially, the type-logical variant) has traditionally been taken in the linguistic literature to be mostly an application of mathematical techniques for computational implementation purposes, our paper shows that its analytical techniques are directly relevant for a central question in the theoretical linguistics literature.
Perspectives
One thing we tried in this paper is to present the technical analysis in a form most accessible to linguists familiar with the mainstream movement-based approach to syntax. We hope that our paper provides an entry point for general linguists to exploring the larger literature behind it: categorial grammar research has had its own development over the last 60 years since Lambek's (1958) seminal work.
