What is it about?

A previously constructed neural network model was expanded to be capable of performing several cognitive tasks. A gating mechanism was proposed to explain how the brain manage to store multiple items in short-term memory.

Why is it important?

The model is large-scale, i.e., includes multiple brain regions from early visual cortex to prefrontal cortex, and biologically realistic. A series of tasks can be performed using the model with different top-down task control signal. We generated data of behavioral studies, neural activity and fMRI that matched experimental results, which shows the model can help to integrate and explain data from different experimental techniques.
