The article focuses on the performative turn in Israeli art, which took place in the mid-1960s and developed through three distinct phases into the 1970s: from the introduction of innovative artistic techniques and performative actions of painting, through outdoor activities, to the third phase of performance art and the body.

Why is it important?

While Israeli art historians have briefly considered performative manifestations of art produced in the 1970s, they have failed to relate them to a comprehensive performative turn, nor have they considered them from the point of view of performance theory, which foregrounds their ontological, phenomenological, and embodied values.
